Numerology
numerologyAssigning numbers to your birth date and name to derive 'core numbers' said to describe character and timing. A symbolic system with real, checkable arithmetic and conventional meanings.
Numerology reduces your birth date and the letters of your name to single digits (plus a few special numbers) and reads traditional meanings into them. The arithmetic is real and you can check it — the step where a number 'means' independence or change is convention, the same way a symbol carries meaning in any interpretive system. About the history: despite the common 'Pythagoras, 2,500 years old' framing, the modern system is recent — largely shaped by L. Dow Balliett and others in the late 1800s / early 1900s. The Pythagorean lineage is more inspiration than inheritance; the calculations we use today were formalized in that later revival. We include it because it can be a useful mirror for reflection, and because we present it the honest way the rest of this site works: show every calculation, show where the two main systems (Pythagorean and Chaldean) disagree, and keep the difference between a computed value and its symbolic meaning explicit.
Not: Not a measurement of anything physical, and not a prediction. The sums are computed; the meanings pinned to them are symbolic convention.
Numerology's meanings are interpretive convention, not measured quantities. Use the numbers as a prompt for reflection, and treat the calculation and the meaning as two separate things.
